Tablet Improvements for the POS App

In version 9.19, Shopify introduced a design update to the app layout that optimizes screen space for tablets. This means more information can be presented to retail staff within a single view. Here’s what’s new:

  • Shopify has optimized text size and spacing to display more information needed by staff within a single view. This means less scrolling and tapping when forming carts.
  • Shopify has transitioned workflows from full-screen mode to windowed mode on iOS tablets. This allows staff to focus on specific actions and ensures the cart remains visible at all times. These changes free up more space for actions in the overall layout, helping staff navigate the POS app more smoothly.

POS Terminal Experience Enhancements

Shopify has released an update to the POS Terminal and the Customer View app (version 1.25), which includes a refreshed design for the cart, payment, tipping, and receipt screens. The default idle screen now includes animation with support for light and dark modes, making the experience more pleasant. Customers can now choose from multiple types of digital receipts, including the Shop app, email, SMS, and print, making it easier to receive receipts. Customers can view product images on your customer-facing devices, allowing them to easily see how their items are added to the cart. This feature can be managed in the display editor (Settings > Devices > Customer Displays) in the POS sales channel. Learn more about cart images for the POS Terminal in the Shopify Help Center. Files Admin User Permission is Now Generally Available

Shopify has released the ability to grant staff members explicit file permissions for a shop. This helps merchants ensure team members have the necessary level of access based on their needs. The file admin permission is now available to all merchants.

Purchase Shipping Labels in Bulk from the Shipping Labels Page

Shopify has launched a new way to purchase labels for up to 100 ready-to-fulfill orders at once. On the “Shipping Labels” page, select “Buy labels for X orders” to quickly start purchasing labels for 100 orders at one of your fulfillment locations. On the “Create Shipping Labels” page, you can now group orders by type and quantity of items to quickly fulfill similar orders.
