Shopify Tax has expanded to the European Union and United Kingdom with a new suite of offerings
Managing VAT is complicated, so we’re committed to making it better. Shopify Tax offers brand new features for your admin that make it easier to collect the right amounts at the right time and know where your business is liable.
– Enhanced calculations. Stay compliant when selling overseas, knowing that Shopify Tax will accurately calculate VAT rates based on your customers’ exact address.
– Smart categorization. Is a Jaffa cake a cake or a sponge cake? We as a society can never agree, but at Shopify, we can help you categorize your Jaffa cake for tax purposes. Shopify will help you by suggesting the right category for your items and then automatically applying the correct VAT rate according to local regulations. If the rates differ for multiple items, Shopify Tax will now tax shipping proportionally for each EU and UK order.
– Liability Insights. Find out where you’re liable with a country-by-country overview of your tax liability. Liability Insights analyzes your store sales and compares them to government requirements to let you know where and how you may be liable to collect VAT.
– VAT invoices (VAT invoices). If you sell taxable goods or services to businesses or individuals registered in other EU countries, you are required to submit a VAT invoice. At the click of a button, Shopify Tax will issue VAT invoices, allowing you to comply with local legislation and your B2B buyers to get their VAT back.
Shopify Tax currently applies to all Shopify stores selling in the European Union and/or the UK. Merchants using registration-based taxes will automatically receive these improvements in the coming weeks.
