Collective retailers can show multiple shipping rates and transit times at checkout.
\nRetailers can now display multiple shipping rates with estimated shipping dates at checkout. By default, you can automatically retrieve all rates provided by vendors, or customize the number of rates and their descriptions according to the store’s general policy.

File picker is now available on the variant detail page in admin.
\nShopify has added a unified file picker to select images on the variant detail page in admin, allowing merchants to access all images in their store when managing product variants.

Flow: New actions for working with metaobjects.
\nFlow has more tools for working with metaobjects in workflows. In addition to the recent Metaobject entry created trigger Flow now offers the Get metaobject entries and “Get metaobject entry” actions. These actions make it easier to store data in metaobjects and retrieve them for use in workflows. For example, a metaobject can be used to manage a fraud denial list, which is then queried from Flow and used for the next steps sending internal email alerts or canceling orders. The Get metaobject entries action retrieves the list of entries for a metaobject from your store. In addition to the usual query fields, such as display name or update date, metaobjects can be queried by value. The Get metaobject entries action retrieves one record per handle.

Checkout Blocks is now available under apps and is no longer a sales channel.

Shopify has updated the Checkout Blocks app to no longer act as a sales channel. Previously, It was listed on every sales channel publication card, including products, collections, and discounts. Now, you’ll find it in the Apps section, making it easier to interact with It. No action is required!

Continuous cart authentication to checkout.

\n

Shopify recently implemented a change that provides continuous authentication from cart to checkout, allowing authenticated customers to proceed to checkout without re-entering their credentials. Add customerAccessToken to the Buyer Identity object in the Storefront API Cart to enable this feature and specify the customer’s IP address when making server-side requests. Note that for security reasons, the checkout URL should be requested when the buyer is ready to proceed to checkout and can be requested again if necessary. Sellers building mobile apps with Checkout Sheet Kit can check out this detailed guide on how to create authenticated checkout for buyers in mobile apps. Previously, you could only open an authenticated checkout using multipass, which was limited to Shopify Plus plans and legacy customer accounts. Each Headless storefront supports unique resource publishing and order attribution.

\n

Shopify is releasing a feature that allows you to publish different products and collections to each Headless storefront. This means that if you have multiple Headless storefronts, different products and collections can be available for each storefront. In the Shopify admin, where you used to see “Headless” as the channel name, you will now see the name of each of your Headless storefronts as a possible publishing location. The same change applies to the Orders page and other areas of the admin. Each Headless showcase is now treated as a unique channel. This means that API calls that passed the publication ID for the Headless sales channel app now need to pass the publication ID for the Headless storefront channel. For example, if you previously used the publishablePublish mutation with the publish ID for the Headless sales channel application, you will now need to call that mutation with the publish ID for each Headless storefront you want to publish to.

Shopify Updates 12/16/2024 – 12/23/2024

 Commercial invoices will now include Tax IDs on Managed Markets orders.

\n

Some countries, including Brazil, China, and South Korea, require customs authorities to include customer tax IDs on shipments. For orders to these countries fulfilled through Managed Markets, the tax IDs received at checkout will now be automatically added to commercial invoices. Going forward, Managed Markets will continue to add this functionality for any new countries that begin requiring tax IDs on commercial invoices.

\n

Tax ID Required in Checkout for Shipments to Mexico.

\n

From 1 January 2025, the Mexican government will require an RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) tax ID to be entered on orders under $2,500 shipped to Mexico. To ensure compliance with these regulations, Shopify has introduced a new ‘RFC’ field, which can be found under ‘Additional Information’ in the following areas:

\n\n

The RFC field must be populated with the customer’s RFC, CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población), or their foreign tax identification number for orders shipping to Mexico.

\n

Important: If checkout settings are enabled to collect tax IDs for Mexico, disable them to avoid duplicate fields and confusion at checkout.

\n

 Direct customers back to the online store after login.

\n

Direct customers back to the online store after a successful login using the new storefront_login_url route in the routes object. With this route, customers will be directed back to the page where the login occurred. You can also direct customers to a different online shop page using the /customer_authentication/login path with the return_to parameter.

\n

 Charge Tax on Shipping Proportionally in Canada with Shopify.

\n

Due to the Canadian tax holiday, Shopify has begun automatically zeroing out the cost of correctly categorized items on behalf of sellers. To simplify tax collection for sellers, Shopify now calculates shipping tax proportionally for orders with zero-rated items.

\n

This means that orders with zero-rated and regular-rated items will be charged shipping tax at a blended rate, weighted by the number of items and tax rates in the order.

\n

Only zero-rated or tax-exempt items will affect the delivery tax rate. This only applies to GST and you must use taxes based on registration.

\n

From 17 December 2024, Shopify will automatically prorate tax on delivery orders that have zero-rated and non-zero-rated tax items. This does not apply to manually set tax rates: if your shop uses Legacy Tax or overrides, these changes will not apply and you’ll need to handle the taxes yourself.

\n

What you need to do.

\n

Check the product categories and make sure they are correct. Make sure no manual overrides are enabled for those categories and that you are not using Legacy Tax. That’s it! Shopify will automatically calculate tax holidays and prorated shipping taxation.

\n

Tip: Use bulk editor to quickly review and update multiple products at once.

\n

 Purolator labels are available through Shopify Shipping.

\n

Shopify has added Purolator as a new carrier to Shopify Shipping. If you’re a seller with a location in Canada, you can now purchase domestic shipping labels from Purolator.

\n

With more carriers, you’ll be able to ship your orders quickly and cost-effectively this holiday season and beyond.

  1.  Build customer segments based on store credit. The new store_credit_accounts segmentation feature allows you to identify customers based on their shop credit balance, the next shop credit expiry date or the date they last received shop credit. This allows you to engage with customers in a targeted way, reminding them of their outstanding or soon-to-expire shop credit balance and encouraging them to make additional purchases. You can access this feature by visiting Customers > Segments in the admin area. To help you get started, three new segmentation templates are available:
    \n    – Customers with available shop credit to spend.
    \n– Customers with shop credit that expires in the next 7 days.
    \n– Customers who have not used their shop credit after 1 month.

  2. Analyse store credit transactions with new reports and event details. A new ‘Store credit transactions’ report is now available that displays shop credit transactions for all customers in your shop. This report provides information on shop credit credits credited, debited, and expired for a specific period. Use this report to better understand shop credit disbursements and repayments on a store-wide basis. You can find this report under Analytics > Reports in the admin area. Note that you must use the new Shopify Analytics to view this report. In addition, information about the event that triggered the shop credit transaction is now available in the Shopify Transaction History view. This includes the order associated with the shop credit transaction (if applicable). You can view this information by going to the Customers section of the admin, selecting the customer of interest, and then clicking on their shop credit balance.

  3. The Winter ‘25 Edition is here. 150+ updates for Shopify have been announced. See the updates.

  4. Now link product meta fields to product options. Until now, merchants could link their options to category meta fields, allowing them to use those option values in similar products. This release extends this functionality to include any list of links to meta-objects.

  5. Metafields for Order Routing. Location meta fields can now be used to define order routing rules, offering a more versatile, dynamic, and scalable way to rank order fulfillment locations when placing new orders.

  6. Shop Campaigns is now available on all Shopify plans. Shop Campaigns is now available for merchants on all Shopify plans. Run campaigns across multiple platforms that convert new or departing customers to Shop. Set a CAC, target ROAS, and daily budget – and let Shopify do the rest. We optimize creative, placement, and audience. You control costs and only pay when customers convert. It’s a risk-free growth channel.

  7. Handle the Canadian Tax Holiday Automatically with Shopify. Shopify has automated tax compliance for the Canadian GST/HST holidays, so you don’t have to do it yourself. Here’s what you need to know:
    \nWhat’s changing?
    \nStarting December 14, 2024, the Canadian government is temporarily canceling the GST/HST on certain categories of goods. Shopify will automatically apply the zero rate to eligible products in your shop with the right categories; no manual tax adjustment is required.
    \nWhich products can be claimed?
    \nTax credits apply to the categories listed here. If your products fall into one of these categories, the zero rate will be applied automatically, provided you don’t have manual overrides.
    \nIf your shop does not use registration-based taxes (if you enter your own rates in the Taxes and Charges settings), you will not have an automatic zero-rate GST/HST for the duration of the tax holiday.

What you need to do.

– Check the categories of goods

\n

– Make sure that the relevant goods are assigned to the correct categories, before 14 December.

\n

– That’s it! If your goods fall under the bolded category in the above PDF, tax will not be charged automatically due to the tax holiday.

Tip: Use the bulk item editor to quickly view and update multiple items at once.
